Dear Parents,

With yesterday’s tragic incident at Hillcrest Primary, I don’t think words can truly express how we are all feeling right now. It is simply heartbreaking.  I have sent a message of support to Hillcrest Primary school during this unimaginable time on behalf of our KIDHS community.

With such an incredibly upsetting incident, it is important that you know that there is support available for you and your families to help.  Your child may be upset and have questions for you. This is normal, but it can also be difficult to know what to say in these situations.

A helpful resource is available at helping-children-affected-tragic-events.pdf (psychology.org.au) that provides guidance about how you can support your child and help them cope after such tragic events.  More resources are available to support families at https://www.education.tas.gov.au/trauma-support-resources/.

Please also utilise the many different general support services available to you if you need them:

• Lifeline 13 11 44

• Kids Helpline 1800 551 800

• Mental Health Helpline – 1800 332 388

• Beyond Blue Support Service – 1300 224 636

Please look after yourselves and your families.

Regards,

Denise Bryant
